Purloined (with permission) from Facebook, director Kathryn Edwards shares a moment with her readers regarding the Lace Market Theatre production of Phoebe Frances Brown’s staged exploration of life and all its various heart tugging moments.

“Our gorgeous Jen, who will be stepping into Phoebe’s shoes next week when we open for the first performance of The Glad Game at The Lace Market Theatre.

Finding the right actress for the role was so important. Not only because she needed the strength to carry a one woman show and engage an audience by herself on stage for over an hour. But also because she needed to have just the right warmth, humour and likability to play Phoebe. Jen has this in spades and I can’t wait for you to watch her shine. This is what she has to say about taking on the role:

“After the initial excitement of being cast in The Glad Game, the challenge of delivering a one woman show and the responsibility of telling Phoebe’s story dawned on me. But the process has been an absolute joy and a privilege. I’ve found so much inspiration in Phoebe’s resilience and courage. Acting is the thing Phoebe loved the most in the world, so this is such a fitting celebration. ‘Come on now Pheeb, we got this!’”

The Glad Game is Phoebe’s story; the story of finding yourself in the darkest moments, about leaning on those who love you and finding reasons everywhere to be glad.

Nottingham actress Phoebe Frances Brown is at the beginning of her acting career. She is living in London and enjoying life to the full when she is struck with devastating news. At 28 she is diagnosed with incurable brain cancer. This is her story. A one woman show of incredible strength and endurance in the face of adversity, Phoebe’s story is raw and real. She tells it with humour and authenticity and a genuine love for her number one passion in life. Acting.

A tour de force; Phoebe takes the audience on her journey with brutal honesty and raw emotions. She will have you laughing and crying in equal measure, which is what she would have wanted because all good theatre pulls at a myriad of human emotions and in this piece she has done just that.
