Black Beauty – Djanogly Theatre, Nottingham Lakeside Arts
Saturday 9 to Sunday 31 December
Christmas is coming and every panto this year wants a cow. As head and tail of a pantomime horse, this is unfortunate news for the McCuddy brothers.
Having to make ends meet the brothers are sorting out items for sale from the travelling horse box they call home, when they rediscover their mum’s well-loved copy of Anna Sewell’s Black Beauty.
Drawing inspiration from this classic story, the brothers take the bit firmly between their teeth and play out their favourite scenes, galloping headlong towards some much-needed good news and an irresistibly happy ending.
From a stable that produces award-winning children’s theatre – Red Bridge Arts – in partnership with one of the UK’s leading theatres – Traverse Theatre Company – expect fabulous storytelling, puppetry and laugh-out-loud comedy – laced with that memorable theme tune!
“A galloping, five-star triumph” – The Guardian.
Winner of two Critics’ Awards for Theatre in Scotland for Best Production for Children and Young People and Best Design, Black Beauty is a must-see Christmas production for everyone aged 6+. With relaxed and sign language interpreted performances, this is an affordable wintertime treat for families who love feel-good, beautifully-crafted theatre, and offers a high quality, alternative festive outing to a traditional panto at a fraction of the cost.
Director of Lakeside Arts, Shona Powell OBE says: “I’ll give it to you straight from the horse’s mouth! We’re thrilled to bring this award-winning, funny and gorgeously-designed show to Lakeside this Christmas. It’s a fabulous story appealing to those who love and remember the book, the TV series and the film, as well as delighting our younger audiences who will no doubt be hugely entertained by all the horsing around!”
