Curve is among the nominees for Theatre of the Year at The Stage Awards 2023, in recognition of its status as a regional producing powerhouse. The highlight of its 2022 season was its ambitious reimagining of Billy Elliot, which scooped the UK Theatre award for best musical. Other successes included the England and Wales tour of The Color Purple, which operated an audience outreach programme that aimed to attract black, ethnically diverse and LGBT+ audiences. Outreach is a key part of the organisation’s output in Leicester too, with the theatre having undertaken a range of initiatives to connect with local audiences. This included commissioning three local writers whose families had arrived in the UK from Uganda to create a series of short plays to mark the 50th anniversary of the Ugandan Asian exodus. The Stage.
