Derby Theatre presents National Theatre Connections Festival

Derby Theatre Wednesday 1 – Saturday 4 May

Derby Theatre to once again host  National Theatre Connections, a festival  of theatre, new writing, performances  and workshops for 11-25 year olds

Derby Theatre is once again thrilled to be hosting National Theatre Connections, an exciting festival for young people aged 11 – 25, on from Wednesday 1 – Saturday 4 May, which celebrates and showcases youth talent across the UK.

Each year, the National Theatre commissions high profile and up-and-coming writers to create new plays for performance by young companies all over the country, and we are thrilled to be welcoming seven talented young companies in the region to perform at our festival.

Connections 2019 will see Derby Theatre become a vibrant artistic hub where young people will take over the building.  On offer throughout the week will be the chance for young people to see their peers perform and participate in a wide range of events and exciting workshops led by leading creative professionals – including workshops in: movement relating to the Olivier and Tony award-wining The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time with internationally renowned theatre company, Frantic Assembly; script writing, cake decorating, scare acting with Rosie Redvers-Jones, stage combat with Ian Stapleton (always a firm favourite), make-up and prosthetics and dance with National Dance award nominees, Company Chameleon. Workshop places are limited and are expected to be as popular as ever, so early booking is recommended.

Also making a welcome return to the Festival again this year is New Writing for Young People, a chance for 14-25 year olds see three actors perform new pieces created from, and inspired by, new writing created on the day.

National Theatre Connections is perfect for young people who have a passion for, and interest in, theatre, arts, writing and performance. Ideal for like-minded young people to share and enjoy together, the Festival is open to all and Derby Theatre looks forward to welcoming familiar and new young faces to the venue for this exciting annual event.

Groups from the region performing at the Festival this year include: ACTS, Creatio, Tiptoe School of Performing Arts, The Oaks Academy, The Young Rep Acting School, Garrick Young Rep and Acting Ensemble.  The plays being performed this year include: Terra/Earth by Neil Leyshon, Class by Ben Bailey and Lajaune Lincoln, Chaos by Laura Lomas, Stuff by Tom Wells and Flesh by Rob Drummond.   Prices for National Theatre Connections Festival:
