Members of the community, from Derby and the surrounding county, are invited to book an audition slot to join the company for the run of the production in Derby, an opportunity to work with the Mercury Theatre’s Artistic Director, Daniel Buckroyd (Director); Michael Haslam (Musical Director); Cressida Carre (Movement Director); Lekan Lawal (Derby Theatre’s Assistant Director) and a professional cast and creative team.

We are looking for performers aged 18+ of all ages, genders and ethnicities to be involved in various scenes and musical numbers, playing a range of different character roles.

We will be holding four, hour-long audition workshops on Wednesday 24 August between 6pm and 10pm at  Derby Theatre’s rehearsal space on Green Lane in Derby.
Auditionees will be required to sing and learn a small piece of movement during the workshop, but do not need to prepare anything in advance. Comfortable clothing for the audition is required and those auditioning will be asked to make their way directly to Green Lane for their audition.

Sweeney Todd community member rehearsals will run from Tuesday 30 August until Saturday 24 September in the evenings and possibly on some weekend dates. A full and detailed rehearsal and technical schedule is still to be confirmed but community performers will also need to be available to attend some daytime technical and dress rehearsals during the production week, which runs from Monday 26 until Saturday 30 September.

Director, Daniel Buckroyd and the Theatre will be recruiting a small pool of community actors so not everyone will need to be available for every performance, but the director and company are most interested in working with people who are very flexible, have good availability and who are very committed to the production. Community performer roles are unpaid, but a small amount of free tickets for the production will be offered to community members as a thank you gesture.

If you are interested, and feel you have what it takes to become a community member of the Sweeney Todd company, you can book an audition slot by calling the Derby Theatre Box Office on 01332 593939.
