BIG DANCE LAUNCHES IN LEICESTER

Tue 26 Jan

The Big Dance Pledge 2016 is an opportunity for dance groups to take part in a united dance performance and a connected creative process, inclusive of all ages, levels of experience and types of body.  Since 2012, the Big Dance Pledge has been led by People Dancing, the Mayor of London and delivered in partnership with Big Dance hub organisations across the UK, the British Council, reaching over 50 countries and more than 250,000 participants.  Performances are co-ordinated locally in public spaces, studios, arts venues, community spaces and schools, celebrating creativity, culture and people.

For 2016 Akram Khan has developed the choreography for the Big Dance Pledge, and as one of Curve’s associate artists, we want to share this with our Leicester community in a series of experiences, films and live performances.

Come and find out how you can get involved in Big Dance on Friday 20 May and the weekend of 2nd – 3rd July 2016.

CONNECTING COMMUNITIES

Thu 28 Jan 2016

Following Curve’s hugely inspiring and successful cross-generational community project in March 2015 as part of the Richard III city events; this day will bring together individuals from a range of our community partners to explore, share and combine our different dance experiences.

Inspired by a forthcoming project led by Commonwealth Theatre, the creative exploration will be facilitated by Leicester based dance artists, Mel Knott (Dance Associate, Curve), Louise Katerega (Creative Director, Foot in Hand) and Evie Manning (Commonwealth Theatre).

Practical workshops will take place throughout the day, culminating in a gathering of people and a sharing of our ideas. Open to everyone, whether you dance for others or just for yourself; whether you consider yourself disabled or non-disabled; are a student, a child, a parent or a grandparent, or anyone with a love for creativity in Leicester. Everyone is welcome!

If you are an individual or a community or school group who would like to be involved in the day, please register your interest to m.knott@curvetheatre.co.uk by 4 Jan 2016.
