Welcome to East Midlands Theatre website. You are reading this at a very exciting time in our growth as a premiere independent theatre/show promotion and reviewing site. Since the site was launched in October 2015 we have strived to offer our constantly growing legions of readers the very best in what we do critically and journalistically.

“Support for theatre outside of London from publications and across media, has fallen dramatically over the years due to funding cuts to local news organisations. Trying to promote our productions and receive intelligent and rigorous critical feedback for our work is becoming increasingly challenging as there are fewer journalists and arts editors able to cover what we do. Phil Lowe’s theatre website and support of Curve has been invaluable. Phil is an intelligent, sagacious and incredibly well-schooled reviewer who has a wide understanding of the theatre ecology. The way Phil is able to share what we are doing and bring it to a wider, more diverse audience through the East Midlands Theatre website is incredibly important.” Nikolai Foster. Artistic Director. Curve Theatre. Leicester

Our reviews are continuing to be appreciated by the major theatres and theatre companies in our region and we are very often quoted on their publicity posters. Nottingham Playhouse are especially strong in this matter and it is very exciting for us to be mentioned alongside reviews by The Stage, The Guardian, The Times, Exeunt Magazine and Nottingham Post.

Phil Lowe also writes regular reviews for What’s On Stage.

Phil It was a pleasure to see you both briefly at The Curve the other day, and having been steered by them to your website I can only say how impressed I am by both the EMT site itself and your beautifully written, superbly well illustrated review of Scrooge. You do a great service. See you anon, hopefully. Kind regards, Roderic

Hi, did you know that for the last 21 years The Stephen Sondheim Society has been based in Nottingham with me as The Administrator?
I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve tried to get the Playhouse to do some Sondheim!

Thank you for a lovely review of A Touch of Danger, at the Theatre Royal this week. Wondering about your comment on the use of the period phone though!

Ah yes. On two or three occasions there appeared to be only two or three circulations of numbers dialled rather than the total dialling code and personal number. It may have been theatrical licence and the need for dramatic speed but just a couple of twirls of the dialling ring looked odd to my ancient eyes. Glad you liked the review. Maybe next time Dial M For Murder would be a good choice. 😂
