White Christmas – young girls called to audition for role of Susan Waverly

We’re looking for three young girls with excellent acting, singing and dancing skills to play Susan Waverly in our spectacular Christmas 2018 production of Irving Berlin’s White Christmas.

Girls should be aged between eight and 13 years old and no taller than 4 foot 3 inches. Applicants from diverse backgrounds are strongly encouraged.

The musical will rehearse in Leicester during November and play at Curve from Thursday 6 December 2018 to Sunday 13 January 2019.

Based on the 1945 American musical film starring Bing Crosby, White Christmas tells the story of two ex-army friends, Bob Wallace and Phil Davis, who team up with talented sisters, Betty and Judy Haynes, to put on a fabulous show to save the Vermont ski lodge belonging to their former general, Henry Waverly.

The sensational musical features a dazzling, instantly recognisable score of songs including Blue Skies, Sisters, How Deep is the Ocean and of course White Christmas.

Susan Waverly is General Waverly’s granddaughter. She is a loveable, outgoing nine-year-old girl, wise beyond her years. She deeply cares for her granddad and is obsessed with all things showbiz; she is a child star most at home under the spotlight.

Three girls will share the role of Susan and will be allocated performances across the run, so applicants must be available from the beginning of rehearsals on Monday 29 October 2018, throughout the Christmas period and for the whole month of January 2019. Susan has dialogue and her own song, and will take part in various dance routines, so applicants must have good acting skills, a dance background and a strong singing voice. For auditions, girls should prepare any song they enjoy singing.

First round group auditions will take place on Saturday 11 August with recall auditions on Saturday 18 August.

Applications should be made by email to Clare Dudley at c.dudley@curvetheatre.co.uk by Friday 3 August including:

  • The name and age of the applicant
  • Parent’s/guardian’s name
  • Parent’s/guardian’s phone number, email address and postal address
  • A brief run-down of the applicant’s theatre, singing and dance experience

Following applications, Clare will be in touch to allocate audition times.
