Family supported by Home-Start Derby to meet King Arthur with Oddsocks Productions!
A local family will experience a unique trip to the theatre thanks to a collaboration between Oddsocks Productions and Home-Start Derby.
Nationally touring theatre company and Derby-based favourites Oddsocks Productions are linking up with Home-Start Derby to provide a unique theatre experience for a local Derbyshire family.
As part of Oddsocks engagement scheme ‘Open Doors’, the family supported by Home-Start Derby will have an exclusive tour of the stage, meet the cast of Oddsocks’ production of The Legend of King Arthur and receive merchandise before sitting down to enjoy the show at Derby Guildhall Theatre.
Home-Start Derby was set up in 1995 and last year supported 138 families and 204 children. They recruit and train volunteers to offer emotional and practical support to families in their own homes. Support can be for a range of reasons, including poverty, isolation, poor mental health and illness and disability.
Sally, Home-Start Organiser said: “This is an amazing opportunity that our families would not be able to access without collaboration with Oddsocks” .
Oddsocks Productions re-imagine classic texts for modern audiences and are touring for the 26th year with their winter tour of The Legend of King Arthur. Having performed for over 2 decades, they appreciate the value to young people of engaging with live theatre, creating an enjoyable shared experience and, generally, having a laugh! The Legend of King Arthur is inherent to English culture and they are delighted to be introducing the story.
Hope Ward-Brown, Young Producer at Oddsocks, said: “With less disposable income than ever before, families have to make tough decisions about priorities, and the theatre is rarely seen as a necessity. Oddsocks’ are delighted to offer this access-all-areas experience for this family and to provide this opportunity for them to see the show, hopefully creating a lasting memory for them of live theatre.”
The Legend of King Arthur is at Derby Guildhall Theatre from 26-30th January 2016. Tickets from www.derbylive.co.uk or tel: 01332 255800
